September Kitchen Garden Free Book

Just a quick heads up,
We all know that usually the free books you get palmed off with on the front of magazines are a right load of old drivel.
Well, the book that comes with the  September edition of Kitchen Garden is surprisingly good! Worth buying the magazine for the book and seeds alone in my opinion

Here's a quick peak:

3 packets of seeds, the magazine, a veg harvesting bag and this book all for a little less than a fiver, good value for money if you ask me!

Recently I think Kitchen Garden has consistently outshone Grow Your Own Magazine, which seems to always be full of the same old same old. If you haven't had Kitchen Garden before now is a great month to give it a go

  1. We don't have those magazines here. But we have "The New Pioneer", "Homesteader" and magazines like that. There's also the ancient "Mother Earth News" which has been around since Christ was a Corporal.

I mostly read survival magazines. I keep chickens but this is the first year in a long time I have had a garden, and it was primarily an experiment.

That looks like a good book. If I find a book I really like and learned from, I read it again every few years. I'm going over Sherry's "Deep Winter" and "Shatter" again right now. Always learn something new.

    1. Backwoods Home magazine is one that I wish we got over here, you'd think they would all ship worldwide :(

  2. That looks like a terrific magazine (and book!). I checked on Amazon, and they have the back issues on CD for $90. No subscription available here. Darn. I'm always on the lookout for good mags on country living and gardening. Ah well. Enjoy!

  5. I've had MEN on subscription for many years now, and have the whole backcatalogue on CD too; I manage to find the first ten editions on e-bay, including the very first one too. I subscribed to New Pioneer too, which I found good. I've never had Backwoods Home, but I belong to the online forum. Over here, I like Home Farmer - very much improved since they changed editor and ownership.

    1. I've often thought about subscribing to Mother Earth News, do you find it useful?

  6. Also, if you can get hold of the old 'Practical Self Sufficiency' magazines (try e-bay) - they're one of the very best resources I've found. Not least for the price of property and land back then - will make you weep lol

  7. Firstly, you are one of the winners for the eBook portion of my recent giveaway! Please visit my blog for what to do next, and then email me with your choice at 5acresandadream at mail dot com.

Secondly, that sounds like a fantastic free book! And the issue you show mentions free blackberries for every reader, wow! Magazines are nice but unlike books, they don't seem to have practical worldwide distribution. At least we all have a good option or two for our own locales.

  9. Husband went to Smiths and bought Kitchen Garden this morning....well, guess what, the free seeds and veg bag in the sealed packet with the magazine, but no book! And the assistant in Smiths checked and said none of the mags in the delivery had a book with it. We've just been in Sainsburys and.....they have the book in the sealed packet, along with everything else. How odd is that?! Unfortunately, husband didn't keep the receipt from Smiths, otherwise we'd have taken the mag back. However, I am going to email the editor to say how odd it is and how disappointed we are. I'll let you know if we get a reply.

    2. The Editor replied to say that they frequently have to add extras (like the free book) in order for supermarkets to agree to take them! So not all free gifts will be available in different outlets, depending on the terms agreed with that chain. And he said they'll see if they have a spare copy to send me, thankfully.
